Graeme Donnachie is the Kilted Artist.

Largely self-taught, he captures inspiration from established Scottish painters John Lowrie Morrison, Pam Carter and even his old Belmont Academy art teacher Pat Kramik, drawing upon the bold dramatic colours employed by these artists. However his true inspiration lies with his ‘art-hero’ Hamish MacDonald whose work kick-started the creative engine, and to this day give a joy and a passion to create pieces that capture and reflect the true feeling of a magnificent landscape.

Working predominantly with acrylic and gouache the majority of his locations are based around his two great loves – the west coast of Scotland and the mountainous interior of New Zealand.

“There is no place like the west coast with its turquoise waters, sandy coves, stark mountains, islands and ever changing weather. The west coast also allows for the inclusion of my trademark – the old fashioned red telephone box – which I try to squeeze in whenever I can!”

“In contrast to this are the dramatic mountains, expanse of lakes, big skies and sheer open space that makes up the south island of New Zealand – all the micro-niches of Scotland on a grander scale.”

Bold colours and constantly evolving techniques are used to capture the mood and essence of these places to allow the viewer to experience the joy of actually being there.

“There is nothing complex or fancy about my work. I try to convey the beauty and raw inspiration of being in a beautiful place. My aim is to share a little bit of the feel good factor of truly being, in God’s Country!”
